With Weight Loss…Motivation Is The Enemy

I realize that this may be a bit of a controversial idea, but that doesn’t make it any less true. Motivation kills weight loss, let me explain why…

Personal development author Steve Chandler speaks about how motivation is over-rated. Steve published 30 books and didn’t even start writing until he was 49 years old! When asked how he managed to publish so many books he simply said, “It’s really about choosing to do it or not to do it. If I only work when I’m inspired my work won’t be reliable, and it won’t be accountable. It won’t be a grown up activity.”

“It Won’t Be A Grown Up Activity”

What a GREAT quote that is. Children are at the mercy of motivation, if they don’t get inspired or motivated, they just don’t do anything…they sit like a zombie in front of a television. The moment they get the urge to set something on fire, up it goes in flames.

Steve goes on to talk about how if he has a ticket to New York for a business meeting, he doesn’t wake up the morning of the flight and think, “Hmmm, I don’t feel motivated to go to New York.” If you have the ticket, you’re committed and you go 100 out of 100 times.

He says, “The New York state of mind can be done with anything that’s important enough to you to removed from the world of feeling and placed into the world of robotic accountability.

Robotic Accountability

Wow, that’s another great line! The stuff that’s important to you should be moved from the uncertain world of feeling and into the certain world of robotic accountability.

What kind of results do you think you would get if you approached weight loss with a “Robotic Accountability”? How would your body change if motivation just didn’t matter, you’d just do what you need to do, day in and day out, just because that’s the way it is.

Just a quick thought for you to ponder for a while! So now what? Check out this timely, and yes, motivational, advice from one of the world’s greatest philosophers!
