What your parents told you as a child is true, breakfast is a very important meal! The research is clear, if you are trying to lose fat you simply cannot go without eating breakfast. So, the question of the day is does your breakfast choice determine your appetite at lunch?
Science has spoken and the answer is a resounding yes!
Researchers supplemented the breakfast of men and women with four types of protein. Whey protein in all its forms seemed to reduce appetite when lunch time rolled around. The effect was more profound in women…sorry guys!
Dr. Ray’s Notes:
Using whey protein as a supplement to breakfast is a good practice as it does seem to offer some benefit to appetite. Similar research has shown eggs to be a good way of controlling appetite later in the day as well. The take-home message is to make protein the foundation of your breakfast as this helps to regulate appetite throughout the day. Protein, especially when eaten in place of carbohydrates, helps to control insulin and regulate blood sugar.
