Makes 14 slices
Ingredients:
3/4 cup boiling water
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons margarine, melted
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread flour
1/4 cup water
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 package dry yeast
**For added variation, throw in some raisins, diced apples, diced dates, or cranberries. 🙂
Directions:
Combine first 5 ingredients in a bowl; stir well. Let cool slightly.
If using a bread machine, mix the above ingredients, place in pan and follow instructions for your bread machine.
If baking in the oven:
Mix the above and stir well. Transfer it to a smooth surface, punch it down, shape it into a sandwich loaf, then let it rise until doubled in size (1 to 1 1/2 hrs), then brush a little water on top of the loaf (you can also brush milk, egg, whatever you feel like) and then sprinkle some quick oats on top…
Bake bread in a 350 oven for 40-50 minutes (you have to check the bread to adjust the time to the crust you want).
